Founder | Environmental Health & Planetary Health Lead
I am an environmental health and public health professional, researcher and educator with experience across environmental health practice, environmental science, public health and academic research.
My work is driven by a simple question: How can we better connect what communities experience in their local environment with environmental health practice, scientific evidence and government decision-making?
I hold a PhD in environmental and public health-related research and have worked across research, higher education and local government environmental health. My experience includes environmental health regulation, food safety, environmental risk assessment, pollution and contamination, community health, research and evidence-based decision-making. I have also contributed to more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications and international collaborative research.
Working across different countries and communities has strengthened my interest in the relationship between environment, culture, inequality and health. Multicultural communities can experience environmental health issues differently and may face barriers in accessing technical information, understanding regulatory systems or participating in environmental decision-making.
I established the Multicultural Environmental Health Intelligence Network (MEHIN) to help bridge these gaps.
MEHIN brings together community knowledge, environmental health practice, environmental data and scientific evidence to improve understanding of emerging environmental health challenges and strengthen communication between communities, practitioners, researchers and government.
My broader interest is in advancing environmental health from traditional hazard and regulatory approaches towards a more connected community-to-planetary health systems approach—while recognising that strong regulation and traditional environmental health practice remain fundamental to protecting public health.
Through MEHIN, I hope to support communities and organisations to listen locally, connect knowledge, understand environmental health systems and translate evidence into practical action.
